Mia Joelsson, MSW, LCSW-C/LCSW

Mia Joelsson is the owner of Lighthouse Counseling and Coaching, LLC.  Mia is a clinical social worker who is licensed in Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia.  Although Mia’s counseling office is located in Gaithersburg, MD, she is also able to see clients throughout MD as well as in PA, WV, and VA virtually through a secure, HIPAA compliant telehealth platform. 

 

Mia has been a clinical social worker since 2002 and has worked in a variety of settings including residential treatment facilities for children, a psychosocial rehabilitation program with adults with serious mental illness, a methadone maintenance facility, and two non-profits where she worked with clients in an outpatient counseling setting and also had key administrative roles in program management and evaluation.  She uses a person-centered therapy approach that combines elements of solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral, existential, and other therapy modalities to achieve the best fit for each client. Mia is a warm and engaging therapist who uses humor, creative problem-solving, and empathy to help clients move forward with positive changes in their lives.

For over twelve years, Mia has specialized in reproductive health challenges like trying to conceive, infertility, pregnancy and baby loss, anxiety and mood issues during pregnancy, and postpartum adjustment.  Mia has received extensive training in infertility, pregnancy loss, and Third Party Reproduction.  She regularly facilitates support groups, conducts consultations for anyone using a donor or surrogate to build their families, and provides supportive counseling for individuals and couples who are experiencing reproductive challenges.  Mia has also been trained in mood and anxiety symptoms during pregnancy and the postpartum period by the Center for Postpartum Depression and The Postpartum Stress Center.  She is passionate about helping clients through the reproductive challenges they face.

Mia has also been certified as an Integrative Life Coach and is working on a certification as a Certified Mental Health Integrative Medicine Provider. She is sensitive to clients who have chronic health issues and/or concerns about COVID and who may feel dismissed or minimized by other health care providers. She has also had advanced training in providing Telehealth mental health services.
